Most of the airfields on this trail were RAF (except Greencastle) and there is not a great deal of military evidence remaining. Some are also on private property. However they are definitely worth a visit for the Second World War avitation enthuasiast.
If you would like to have a look around an airfield, Bishopscourt is a good place to start. This huge complex was designed as a bomber airfield in 1941 and was initially intended to accommodate light bombers of the US Army Air Force Air Support Command in January 1942. Six months later however there were plans to house a Bomber Combat Crew Replacement Centre, but this never came to be and it remained an RAF airfield.
