At The Argory you can enjoy,
• Fascinating courtyard displays
• Garden, woodland and riverside walks with wonderful sweeping views
• Snowdrop walks and superb spring bulbs
• Adventure playground and environmental sculpture trail
• Enjoy afternoon tea and award winning scones in Lady Ada’s tea room
The Argory During the Second World War
This National Trust property was home to the 654th Tank Destroyer Battalion of the US Army who sailed from Brooklyn, New York on board the Queen Mary, arriving in Clyde before crossing the Irish sea to Larne, finally boarding a train to Moy. Before their arrival the US 5th Army used the camp here before departing for the invasion of Italy. The men of the 10th Division, 5th Army got the house ready for the arrival of the 654th Battalions on 20th October 1943.
Keep an eye out for clues of the American presence, such as drawings on the walls of the bookshop which was used by the army as a storeroom. Before heading to your next destination why not pop into the tea rooms for a bite to eat. Please check www.nationaltrust.org.uk/argory/ for opening times and entry fees.
