The Nautilus Centre is based in Kilkeel overlooking the picturesque working harbour. If you are exploring Greencastle Airfield this is a good starting point for your journey as you can get lots of information about the airfield and the surrounding area here.
There is a temporary exhibition on display in the Nautlius Centre covering life during the war years in Mourne and exploring Greencastle Airfield and the arrival of the GIs. So make sure to call in! The Visitor Information Centre is housed in the building and the girls working here have a great deal of knowledge on the airfield and will be able to answer any questions you have. There are several local experts on Greencastle Airfield in the area so if you wish to get in contact with them you can do so from the Visitor Information Centre.
The Nautilus Centre is also home to the Seafood Cookery School, Harbour Haven Forum, and the Mourne Martime Centre. There is also the Seascope Lobster Hatchery within a 2 minute walking distance.
At the Mourne Seafood Cookery School you can learn to prepare and cook fresh fish straight from the harbour at the home of Northern Ireland’s biggest fishing fleet. The chefs will be on hand to teach you about all aspects of seafood and how to handle, fillet, shell and cook it. There is also a range of complimentary courses which cover sauces, bread making, desserts, meat & vegetarian dishes etc. For more information check out the Mourne Seafood Cookery School website.
The newest visitor attraction in Kilkeel is situated next door to the Nautilus Centre, Seascope. It is Northern Ireland’s first lobster hatchery visitor experience and marine reseach centre. Please visit the Seascope Hatchery website for more information.
